Facts about the Union Station Rail Corridor (USRC)

• It is the largest and busiest passenger transportation facility in Canada, functioning as a transportation hub for passenger rail, commuter trains, and freight trains.

• The rail interlocking consists of 25.5 miles of circuited trackage in a three mile long corridor.

• It contains 56 double slip switches, 4 miles of station platforms, 268 switch machines, 182 signals and approximately 190 miles of signalling cable.

• It has an annual rail volume of about 35 million passengers and 55,000 passenger trains.

• It is the hub for GO Transit operations handling approximately 150,000 commuters, Inter-City rail passengers, tourist and event attendees daily.

• 30,000 passengers and over 50 train movements pass through during A.M. rush hour

• The USRC's three train movement control towers were built in 1930.  Apart from energy upgrades, these towers have remained unchanged for the past 79 years.

• TTR's Train Movement Directors (TMDs) work around the clock, controlling more than 25.5 miles of circuited track, over 4 miles of station platforms, 182 signals, 268 switch machines, and 381 levers for operating switches and signals.
