The DSS (Double Slip Switch) Project

The DSS (Double Slip Switch) project involved upgrading the USRC’s antiquated track and signals infrastructure to accommodate a future replacement of traffic control system. The DSS replacement project required the change-out of approximately 100 pieces of specialty track work within the USRC and was completed in the winter of 2012. The program included track and signal design and construction activity.

TTR worked as project manager for the track and signals portion of the project, working in cooperation with HDI as the design engineer on the team. TTR coordinated the track design and testing, planned yearly construction schedules with the client, submitted budget reports and performed post-construction testing. Further TTR worked to ensure safe work practices were followed and the timely delivery of drawings and records. All track additions, signal upgrades and hardware renewals were accomplished while maintaining a safe and on-time train performance for GO Transit, VIA, CN and CP rail companies. TTR was also responsible for receiving and storing all materials in use for the project, and in many cases for assembling the track components from the manufacturers.
